Long-Time HCJB Engineer Clayton Howard, W9KJZ (SK)

The longtime host of a popular shortwave radio listeners’ program, Clayton Howard, W9KJZ, died January 27, 2011 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He was 92. Howard served from 1941 to 1984 as an engineer with Radio Station HCJB, the missionary shortwave station in Quito, Ecuador. Clayton also began Andes DX International (ANDEX), a club for shortwave radio listeners, and the ANDEX magazine. Founded in 1931, HCJB was the first missionary radio station in the world. -- Glenn Hauser, DXLD
