A Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) H-II transport vehicle delivered two European Space Agency CubeSats -- GOMX-3 and AAUSAT-5 -- to the International Space Station on August 19. The CubeSats, both carrying Amateur Radio payloads, originated in Denmark. They will be deployed simultaneously into orbit from the ISS during the first half of September, with the involvement of Danish ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen, KG5GCZ. When Mogensen heads to the ISS this September for a 10-day mission, he will become the first Danish astronaut to go into space.

GOMX-3 is a 3U Cubesat. The mission and its payloads will be used for storytelling and teaching. It will include an automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) receiver, magnetometer data, solar cells and green energy, and radio operation. It will also carry an experimental X-band transmitter plus an SDR receiver. The GOMX-3 downlink is 437.250 MHz, with 1200-9600 baud GMSK data from a NanoCom AX100 using CSP protocol.

AAUSAT-5 is a 1U CubeSat entirely built by a university team with ESA’s support. Its primary mission is to receive position-location beacons from ships. It also carries an educational payload.
