Surfin’: Two Weeks ’til Dayton

This week, Surfin’ gets ready for the Dayton Hamvention.
Two weeks from now, tens of thousands of hams will converge on the home of Orville and Wilbur Wright to attend ham radio’s big show: the Dayton Hamvention®.
Among those converging on Dayton are Tom Medlin, W5KUB, and his fellow travelers, who will drive from Memphis with live streaming video coverage from the start of their trip on Wednesday, May 18, until they return home.
During Hamvention, they will be stationed in the flea market at slot spaces 3407-9 with their video gear. They will be touring the show transmitting video of the sights like the ARRL EXPO expanse and interviewing hams like NASA astronaut Doug Wheelock, KF5BOC, Commander of the International Space Station, who will be attending Hamvention as a guest of the ARRL and AMSAT.
Tom and his crew have been doing this for the past nine years. They provide a way for hams unable to attend Hamvention to go to Dayton vicariously. I’ve attended vicariously myself when I could not go in person and it is almost like being there (sans aching feet).
So tune into W5KUB.COM and enjoy the Hamvention from wherever you are.
Until next time, keep on surfin’!
Editor’s note: Stan Horzepa, WA1LOU, will be at Hamvention, one way or another. To contact Stan, send e-mail or add comments to the WA1LOU blog.
