AMSAT Takes to the Water for Space Symposium 2016
AMSAT-NA will take to the water for its 2016 AMSAT Space Symposium. The event will take place November 10-14 aboard a Carnival Cruise Lines ship that will depart from and return to Galveston, Texas. The voyage will include 2 full days at sea and a 1 day port stop at Cozumel, Mexico.
“Symposium presentations and meetings will be conducted during the days at sea, to allow free time during the stop in Cozumel,” AMSAT said in announcing the unusual conference venue. “The AMSAT Board of Directors meeting will occur on shore at a Galveston hotel in the days prior to the Symposium.”
“This year’s cruise ship venue offers an environment for significant others, families, and friends to attend the AMSAT Symposium event with you,” AMSAT’s announcement said, citing the “many activities” available on a cruise ship.
For those planning to attend, AMSAT has recommended obtaining a passport, if they don’t already have one. The most convenient place to obtain one in at a US Postal Service facility that offers this service (not all do). Renewing an expired or expiring US passport can take several weeks.
The Carnival website offers details on travel documents required for US citizens to take along on a cruise originating at a US Port and returning to the same port.
AMSAT is offering a group rate and booking code. Call (800) 438-6744 extension 70005. The group name is AMSAT, and the group code is 8Z0FR5. Reservations require a $150 per-person deposit, which will be fully refundable until September 11.
