Description:

The Sin City Repeater Group (SCRG) isn’t just another Las Vegas amateur radio network — it’s the heartbeat of a movement. Born from a single Henderson repeater on 446.825 MHz, it’s grown into one of the most unapologetically alive ham radio communities in Nevada, stretching across 2m, 440, and 900 MHz, and linking Las Vegas to Buffalo, the Philippines, and beyond through AllStar Link.

This isn’t a hobby on life support. This is where ham radio in Las Vegas meets real life — unfiltered, unpredictable, and unforgettable.

More Than Just Repeaters — A Real Community

But here’s the thing: our repeaters are just the backdrop. The real story is the people. The BBQs, the road trips, the holidays, the friendships. We just happen to also be really good at RF — and we’ve made the right connections to drop our repeaters in all the right places. The result? A network that works because the people behind it do.

A Network That Works Because of the People

The SCRG ham radio group is cookouts and campfires, tavern nights that last longer than planned, off-roading adventures that end with laughter and stories on the air. It’s kids running around at BBQs, families celebrating Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Independence Day together, XYLs swapping stories while operators ragchew on the radios.

What started as a handful of hams has become a family.

With one of the largest and youngest mixes of operators in Nevada, our conversations are wide open and real — cars, music, food, politics, you name it. No scripts. No sterile radio checks. Just life, lived out loud.

Life, Lived Out Loud on the Air

We’ll be honest: SCRG isn’t for everyone. If your idea of “radio” is endless demo checks, complaining about other people, or cliques clinging to the past and pretending they’re still relevant, there are plenty of repeaters across the valley that will welcome you.

But this isn’t one of them.

SCRG is raw, real, and alive.

Here, the dial never sleeps — there’s always a voice, a laugh, or a story waiting for you. And if you’re not part of it? You’re missing out on the kind of amateur radio community most operators only dream about.

No Promises. No Guarantees.

If your ½-watt handheld in the interior bathroom of your stucco house can’t hit us, that’s physics — not our problem.

Want coverage? Build your own machine. Build your own hotspot. We’ll help you. We’ll elmer (mentor) you. We’ll coach you. We’ll be your biggest cheerleader, but we won’t do it for you.

We’re a group of hams fed up with the status quo — pushing the envelope into something new, raw, real, and authentic.

We Don’t Just Share Repeaters, We Share Life

SCRG exists because people who cared enough built it — linked it, climbed towers for it, tuned it, paid for it, and showed up when others didn’t.

That same spirit carries into our families: we don’t just share repeaters, we share life. Holidays, road trips, late-night nets, laughter, and meals. The XYLs get along. The kids get along. The operators get along.

We like to say: If you want silence, spin the dial. If you want a repeater with a pulse, welcome home.

Why Choose SCRG?

  • The most active Las Vegas repeater network on 2m, 440, and 900 MHz
  • Connected worldwide through AllStar Link — Buffalo, the Philippines, and beyond
  • One of Nevada’s youngest, fastest-growing ham radio communities
  • Built on authenticity: no dead air, no sterile checks, no cliques
  • More than radio — holidays, BBQs, family, and real friendships

Participation in the Sin City Repeater Group (SCRG) is a privilege, not a right. The Group is a selective association of repeater owners, builders, and operators who uphold the highest standards of amateur radio under FCC Part 97. Admission is limited to individuals of proven character, technical ability, and personal commitment. Governance of the Group is reserved for those who invest significant tangible resources — financial, technical, or both — in sustaining and expanding the repeater infrastructure upon which the community depends.

Eligibility and Sponsorship

Participation is by invitation only. A prospective participant must be:

  1. Sponsored by one current participant in good standing, and
  2. Seconded by another participant who attests to the applicant’s character, technical competence, and commitment to good amateur practice.

The Sin City Repeater Group is a private association of friends. Admission is selective, participation is a privilege, and nothing in these policies shall be construed to classify the Group as a public accommodation.

Repeater System Access

SCRG repeaters are a closed system. Access is a privilege, not a right, and may be revoked at any time by SCRG or the individual trustee under FCC Part 97.205(e)One does not need to be a registered participant to request access to SCRG affiliated. Repeater use is open to all provided the user is duly licensed, hasn’t been banned, and intends to operate in fidelity with the Code of Conduct- simply make the request to use the machine.

Conduct unbecoming includes, but is not limited to:

  • Intentional interference or harassment;
  • Discriminatory or abusive language, including mocking individuals for foreign accents or cultural differences;
  • Unauthorized linking or modification of equipment;
  • Operating while intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or controlled substances;
  • Criminal, terroristic, or insurrectionary activity; or
  • Any behavior that reflects poorly on the amateur service or SCRG.

Pursuant to FCC Part 97.205(e), all decisions on repeater access are final and not subject to appeal. By transmitting on any SCRG-affiliated repeater, operators automatically consent to these terms. Loss of repeater privileges shall not entitle any participant to a refund of dues or assessments.

ARRL Membership

The Sin City Repeater Group is actively pursuing affiliation with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). In anticipation of this partnership, the Group has adopted ARRL’s membership standards: at least 51% of our voting members shall be both licensed amateurs and ARRL members. Beyond this requirement, we actively strive for 100% ARRL membership among our voting members as a demonstration of our commitment to the amateur radio service and its national association.”
