The Satellite Amateur Radio Club promotes education and use of the radio arts and related science and technology.  We sponsor a website and multiple repeater sites while coordinating with neighboring clubs and repeater owners.

We welcome new licensees as well as people interested in amateur radio, but don't know where to start.

We have club dues that help with the maintenance and buildout of our radio networks, but our meetings and infrastructure are open to all.

Started in 1961 by a group of engineers on Vandenberg Air Force Base working on military payloads and built OSCAR 1 as a ballast payload (because why launch concrete when you can launch a Ham Radio satellite!!!) and affiliated with ARRL in 1965.

As of 2026, the club no longer has a presence on Vandenberg Space Force Base due to changes in DOD directives.  However, the spirit of amateur radio is not tied to a building or a place, and the Satellite Amateur Radio Club continues its dedication to its members, community, and the spirit of amateur radio.

We continue to honor the contributions of John Portune W6NBC (SK) and maintain his web pages on our website.
