ARLX056 Young Welsh ham honored

The Radio Society of Great Britain's 1995 Young Amateur of the Year
is 16-year-old Leroy Kirby, GW0ULC, of Cardigan, Dyfed, Wales.  On
September 10 he received a check for 300 Pounds from Britain's
Radiocommunications Agency, a Sony general coverage receiver, and a
number of other prizes.

Leroy has participated in Amateur Radio through both the Scouts and
the Air Training Corps, the RSGB said in a news release.  They also
said he's actively involved with his local Amateur Radio emergency
service and ''has managed to reactivate'' his local YMCA Amateur
Radio club.  His main interest is packet radio and he has helped set
up a new local BBS system.

Runner-up was 15-year old Charles Banner, G7UBY/2E1CHY, of
Birmingham, who has been involved in teaching Novice licensing
classes.
